Very Reverend Dean Arthur Byrne

Archbishop Martin, Bishop McAreavey and the Priests of the Diocese are deeply saddened at the death of Very Reverend Dean Arthur Byrne former Vicar General of the Diocese of Dromore.

Dean Byrne passed away on Sunday 26th March 2023, gently and peacefully at Craigavon Area Hospital.

Dean Byrne was ordained in June 1952 in St. Patrick's College, Maynooth. After ordination he ministered in the Diocese of Shrewsbury, England for three years. Upon his return to Dromore, he was appointed Dean of St. Colman's College and thereafter served in the parishes of Burren, Newry, Kilbroney and St. Peter's Parish Lurgan until his retirement in 2002.

Dean Byrne's remains will be taken to St Peter's Church Lurgan at 6.30pm on Tuesday (28th March 2023) evening, prior to Parish Evening Mass at 7.00pm. Following this the people will have the opportunity to pay their respects to Dean Byrne until night prayer at 9.00pm.
Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 1.00pm on Wednesday 29th March 2023). Interment afterwards in St Colman's Cemetery.

The Diocese offer their deepest sympathy to Dean Byrne's sisters, Moya McVeigh, Edith O' Neil, nephews, and nieces. May he rest in peace.
